Rug Stain Removal

At the Oriental Rug Spa, we can remove or greatly minimise any stain including red wine stains, coffee stains, ink stains, blood stains, just to name a few. Our process involves a thorough pre inspection and close examination to identify the different stains present on your rug. Once identified, we can then determine the most appropriate and effective cleaning method and chemicals that will produce the best possible outcome.

By acting as quickly as possible you provide yourself the best chance of removing a stain. The longer a spill sits on your rug, the deeper it penetrates and the harder it becomes to remove. Although most can be removed, some stains need specialised cleaning products and advanced technical skill. Here at the Oriental Rug Spa, we only use the industries finest solutions and latest equipment, aiding you in the battle against difficult stains.

Once removed, we highly recommend protecting your rug for ease of stain removal in the future. Let’s face it, spills are inevitable, but by having your rug protected with a stain protector, you are providing yourself a window of opportunity to simply blot up the spill without it becoming a permanent stain.

Useful Tips

1. Work from the edges of the spill to the centre to prevent the spill from spreading.

2. Using a spoon or butter knife, scrape up all excess solids (where applicable).

3. Blot all excess liquids with a dry white absorbent cloth or plain white paper towel.

4. Dampen area and continue to gently blot. Use blotting in order to absorb as much of the spill as possible – and then repeat if necessary. Never rub aggressively as this can cause lasting damage to the fibres.

5. Continue to change paper towels as needed and continue to blot until all moisture is absorbed.

6. Take your time! Patience is the key.

7. If you still have an unsatisfactory result, contact a professional.

Remember, if you’re unsure; please feel free to give us a call; even if it is just for advice. We’re only too pleased to help. Advice is free and may be all you need to be able to resolve the problem yourself.

For high value rugs, antique rugs, heirlooms and alike, we do not recommend trying to remove a stain yourself. In this instance its best to call in a professional. At The Oriental Rug Spa we have many different methods of treating stains that are not available elsewhere. This, combined with expert knowledge, can have your precious rug looking as good as ever.

Rug Stain Protection

The technology of rug protection has been developed over time to protect rugs against soiling and the penetration of stains. The “chemical” is safe and extremely effective when applied correctly with the accurate measurements and techniques.

The main purpose of stain protection is to create a defensive barrier that repels dirt, grime and liquids, thus giving you the time required to mop up spills and prevent them from becoming permanent stains. For instance, if you spill red wine on an unprotected rug, you will see the fibres turn a pinkish colour as the wine is absorbed. However, if you were to spill that same glass of wine on a protected rug, you will see the wine bead up and remain on top of the fibres providing a window of opportunity for you to mop up the spill, absorbing into your paper towel rather than your precious rug.

What many people fail to realise is that protection has another purpose which should not be over looked. By adding protection after your rug is professionally cleaned you are actually prolonging the lifespan of your rug; especially important for valuable rugs and heirlooms. This protective barrier adds a layer of resistance against the subtle abrasion of foot traffic, thus extending its life and “protecting” your investment.

If you want to prolong the splendour of your rug, protection can accomplish that goal for you. Nevertheless, it's important for you to understand the limitations of the product so that you will use proper care and make informed decisions. Like anything, protection wears off after time and should be re-applied after each professional clean. This varies depending on use. In homes with children and pets, we recommend cleaning every 3 to 6 months. In high traffic areas every 12 months and in low use areas every 2 to 3 years.
